Live Music Comes to the Local Patio Friday and Saturday Nights

SWAN Songwriters to Perform May 11 & 12 at LOCAL

2nd Friday after-party kicks off on the LOCAL patio

LOCAL, a new restaurant specializing in local food, is adding local music to the menu. The restaurant is launching free, live music on the patio every Friday and Saturday night 8:30-11:30 p.m., starting May 11.  The inaugural performers are SongWriters Association Norman members David Henson, Richard “Daddy” Love and Michael Bendure.

“As a board member of the Norman Arts Council, I am personally committed to the success of the arts in Norman,” said LOCAL owner Melissa Scaramucci. “When LOCAL decided to jump into the live music scene on the weekends – my first phone call was to SWAN.”

SWAN, a community of more than 60 songwriters, celebrates its three-year anniversary in June.

“We are thrilled to embark on this new opportunity to perform at LOCAL,” said Bendure. “LOCAL’s mission is to provide locally grown foods; it makes perfect sense for them to also provide local music and art. We look forward to this new adventure together and appreciate the chance to share our original music in this great new venue.”

SWAN members will perform each month at LOCAL following the 2nd Friday Circuit of Art hosted by the Norman Arts Council with an encore performance on Saturday night.

“With most of the art circuit venues closing around 9 p.m., having a dedicated location to continue the event while meeting our goal of supporting SWAN is fantastic,” said Norman Arts Council Executive Director Erinn Gavaghan. “Tying SWAN and LOCAL together creates a new venue for the circuit and more opportunities for performers and fans alike to consistently participate in the promotion of our local songwriters.”

LOCAL is located at 2262 W. Main in the Normandy Creek Shopping Center in Norman.  The phone number is (405) 928-5600.

Love and Bendure formed SWAN in 2009 as a non-profit songwriting group organized under the Norman Arts Council. It is designed to promote and support the creation of original music and songwriting in the greater Norman community. Annual membership is $20 for artists and includes opportunities for live performances up to five times per month, guest presentations about different aspects of songwriting and performing and more.
